The second case concerns three employees of the Turkish Cypriot Property Management Service.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, "huge Turkish Cypriot property worth several hundreds of thousands of euros came into their possession, as well as their close relatives."
In fact, one of the civil servants was found to be in possession of Turkish Cypriot land in Paphos with a total area of 1.8 million square meters.
Both the Police and the Audit Service are conducting their own investigations. Specifically, they are investigating how the public servants came into possession of huge areas of Turkish Cypriot property, whether they are the beneficiaries of Turkish Cypriot property, and if so, how the specific Turkish Cypriot property was selected and who handled the examination of their applications, and whether they had any involvement themselves in the examination of their applications or those of their relatives to secure Turkish Cypriot property.
It is noted that throughout Cyprus today there are 20,621 lease contracts for Turkish Cypriot properties, the total value of which is estimated at €6 billion.
