TRAFFIC CAMERAS - OVER €9million COLLECTED IN FINES - ABOUT HALF OF FINES STILL TO BE ISSUED/SERVED

 Filenews 21 March 2024

During the more than two years of operation of the photo-labelling system, the well-known cameras of the Traffic Police, there were 320,447 out-of-court cases.

Of these, 147,188 were paid out of court (42%) and €9,329,369 were collected.

These data were given today to the Transport Committee of the Parliament, by the assistant head of the Traffic Police, Haris Evripidou.

According to the traffic police officer, 24,165 did not pay their bill and will be taken to court.

Half of the out-of-court documents, i.e. 149,094, have not yet been served, which is why software has been prepared to carry out checks at airports and if someone is on the list, they will be served with the extrajudicial document immediately.

Mr. Evripidou noted that Cyprus is currently first in Europe in reducing road deaths with a 35% decrease over the last five years.
