SCULPTURE ON LIMASSOL COASTAL FRONT

Filenews 21 March 2024 - by Ioanna Mantzipia

A wonderful sculpture of a little girl resting her ear on a giant shell to hear the magic of the sea, was presented yesterday morning by the Limassol Region Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAL), as part of projects to upgrade the visitor's experience on the Limassol coastal front.

The work symbolizes man's relationship with the sea, where the sea tells secrets and stories from the depths of time. The sculpture, named "The shell", adorns the beach of the community of Parekklisia and has been placed against the background of the endless blue of the sea, while it is now a point of interest and photography by passers-by.

During the presentation of the sculpture, ETAL President Tonis Antoniou said that the project is part of the effort to "beautify the area with small projects", recalling that ETAL has placed gymnastic equipment, garbage bins and benches in parts of the Limassol coastal promenade, while illuminating an area in front of beach hotels. The donor of the project is the well-known businessman from China who lives permanently and does business in Cyprus.

For her part, the Secretary of the Community Council of Parekklisia, Yiota Theodorou, expressed the certainty that "this wonderful project will upgrade the tourist product of our beach", noting that "people have already started visiting it and we have heard the best comments". The sculptor of the work, Yiota Ioannidou, said that the sculpture depicts a girl holding a shell in her ear and listening. It has a height of 140 cm and is made of bronze and placed on a rock base of the area. The work, as he said, symbolizes man's relationship with the sea, where the sea narrates secrets and stories from the depths of time.
