On Sunday morning, the Police carried out a large-scale operation in an apartment complex between the communities of Tremithousa and Empa.
Around seventy police officers from the Paphos Police Directorate, the Anti-Narcotics Service, the Aliens and Immigration Service and the MMAD literally sifted through dozens of apartments in an attempt to identify and arrest people who are illegally staying in Cyprus.
After the completion of the operation, which lasted a few hours, the Police proceeded to arrest a total of five persons of African origin who, as it was found, reside in Cyprus without the required permits.
The five arrested, including women, were arrested and taken to the Paphos Police detention centre, where the deportation procedures to their countries of origin will begin.
Police investigations are continuing to establish how these individuals arrived in Cyprus.
