The Minister of Foreign
Affairs, Mr Constantinos Kombos, participated at the opening session of the
Senior Officials Meeting for the Cyprus Maritime Corridor, which is taking
place today at the Zenon Coordination Centre in Larnaka. In press statements at the
conclusion of the opening session, Foreign Minister Kombos stated: “The aim of the meeting is to
discuss how we can maximise operational capacity, both in terms of departure
and in terms of means of transport, and also in relation to the reception and
distribution methodology. The second issue we are
discussing today is about the establishment of a fund; a fund that would be
able to finance the operational activities of the Plan. And thirdly, it is about
integrating all the states and entities that are participating in order to
have a synchronised pace for our actions. In terms of participation,
there are 36 countries participating, including the G7 and the EU. The UN is
also present along with a very important attendance of all major agencies
relating to or dealing with the humanitarian aid. In addition, we have NGOs that
are actively involved or that could be utilised in the near future.” (MF/IA/GS) |
