The Ministry of Education, Sports, and Youth informs parents/guardians that the House of Representatives, in its session dated 21st March 2024, passed the 2024 Amendment Law on Primary and Secondary Education (Compulsory Attendance and Provision of Free Education).
This law pertains to the gradual extension of free compulsory pre-primary education from the age of four.
According to a related announcement, “this marks a milestone in the history of Cypriot education, significantly elevating pre-primary education with vast pedagogical and societal benefits. Research data indicates that two years of compulsory pre-primary education lead to better learning outcomes and timely diagnosis in literacy, violence, and delinquency issues. Concurrently, it ensures equal access opportunities to quality educational programmes and facilitates the integration or reintegration of parents/guardians into the labour market.”
Therefore, parents/guardians affected by the aforementioned legislative amendment are informed that student registrations for children aged 4 years 6 months-4 years 8 months (i.e., children born between 01.01.2020-29.02.2020) in Public and Community Kindergartens for the new academic year 2024-2025 will take place from 28th March to 2nd April 2024.
Registrations will be conducted in the same manner as those for children aged 4 years 8 months-6 years.
