EU FUNDING MAY BE LOST AS APPEAL FILED AGAINST AWARD OF SUPPLY OF EAC SMART METERS TO CYTA

There is a visible risk that funding from the European Union for the supply and installation of the 400,000 smart electricity meters will be lost, due to appeals filed with the Tender Review Authority.

As stated by the chairman of the EAC board of directors, George Petrou, one of the serious problems faced by EAC is the issue with appeals. As he said, a new appeal has been registered for smart electricity meters, following EAC's decision last week to award the tender to Cyta, adding that there is a risk that the EU sponsorship will be lost.

"It's a shame to lose smart meters. We will lose many benefits. Cyta won the contest and within a day we had an appeal against the decision," he noted.

It is recalled that a few days ago, the Board of Directors decided to award Cyta the tender for the supply and installation of 400,000 smart electricity meters, in compliance with CERA's regulatory decision and the commitment of the Republic of Cyprus to the EU Recovery Mechanism. The competition was contested by three companies. Cyta had submitted the most expensive offer, but the EAC Evaluation Committee considered that this was the most appropriate proposal, based on the terms of the notice. Cyta's offer reached €40 million.
