One week after CERA's and EAC's decision to expedite the procedures for granting permission to the Electricity Authority to install two gas turbines with a total capacity of 80 megawatts in Dhekelia, EAC published today a tender for the acquisition of open-cycle gas turbines for a total production of 60-115 megawatts.
According to the invitation, the Electricity Authority wishes to install production units, with a total capacity between 60-115 MWe under ISO conditions, consisting of 2-3 gas turbine units, preferably of aerogenic type, at Dhekelia Power Station. Power plants must be capable of dual-burning fuel - distilled oil (gasoil) or natural gas (NG) - with no restrictions on the number of operating hours with any fuel.
The production units will initially operate in diesel and open cycle mode, but will have the possibility to convert to a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Unit (CCGT) at a later stage, if EAC so decides.
As EAC explains, it had decided to add two open cycle generators with a total capacity of about 80 MWe, but it can accept two or three new open cycle plants with a total capacity of between 60-115 MWe. The project, it is added, includes a Gas Turbine Generator Set with their auxiliaries.
The tender includes engineering and structural works, the supply of gas turbines (gas turbines), work on whole structures or parts of structures and civil engineering works, as well as rental of construction machinery and equipment for civil engineering works with operator.
