DUST FROM AFRICA PERSISTS TILL MID-WEEK. SUMMER TEMPERATURES PREVAIL

A high pressure system, coupled with warm and dry currents are affecting the region, with the Saharan dust of hazardous particles lingering in the atmosphere.

With safety levels at 50 micrograms and according to the 0800 measurements this morning, Nicosia was at 70 (PM10), Paralimni 51, Larnaca 57 and Limassol 52. The higher concentration of PM10 dust particles might cause severe discomfort to people with long term respiratory issues, heart patients, asthmatics, individuals with hypertension and children.

The dust is not expected to clear before Wednesday.

Temperatures remain well above the seasonal average, with light southwesterly to northwesterly winds, force three, over slight seas. 31 degrees Celsius inland, 27 in coastal regions and 21 on the mountains.

Clear skies tonight initially, with high cloud forming at intervals later in the evening. Winds will be light northwesterly to northeasterly force three, over calm to slight seas. Temperatures will drop around 14 degrees Celsius inland, 17 on the eastern and southeastern coastal regions, 15 in the rest of the coastal areas and 12 on the mountains.

Fine and warm over the next three days, with temperatures remaining in the low 30s, much higher than the seasonal average
