The arrest of a 49-year-old man involved in the case of theft of EAC cables, worth €2,800, proceeded to the Police in Limassol.

As mentioned in a relevant announcement, in the context of the examinations regarding an investigated case of theft of electrical cables, testimony emerged against a 49-year-old man from Limassol, who was arrested last night and detained.

A 33-year-old man, who was arrested on 29/3/2024, is already in four-day detention for the same case.

The case concerned a complaint (26/3/2024) by an EAC technician for theft of overhead copper cables from an area of Kantou village, approximately 1,400 meters, while six EAC piles were cut.

The Police Stations of Episkopi and Laneia continue the examinations.

The fire in Limassol District, which broke out on Saturday afternoon, was maliciously set, with the Police proceeding to arrest a 33-year-old man, who admitted that he set fire in order to burn wild grass.

As mentioned in an announcement, around 3 pm yesterday, information was received regarding a fire in an inaccessible area in the Mylos area of the village of Agios Therapon in Limassol.

For its extinguishing, 4 Fire Trucks were used, one of the Department of Forests and one of the Community Council of the village. The fire, which was brought under full control around 8pm, burned 5 hectares of dry grass, wild vegetation and carob trees.

As part of the examinations regarding the causes of the fire, testimony emerged against a 33-year-old man from the Limassol district, who under questioning allegedly admitted that he set the fire in order to burn wild grass.

The 33-year-old was arrested on the basis of a court warrant and taken into custody, while the ICF Limassol continues its examinations.

A woman was remanded in custody for eight days on Sunday after having admitted to Larnaca airport police that she had swallowed packets of cocaine before travelling to Cyprus.

The woman, aged 24, was stopped upon her arrival by police, who performed a search of her luggage.

Police say they found “nothing objectionable” in her luggage, but that she then admitted to having packets of cocaine inside her body.

She was then taken to Larnaca general hospital to undergo an x-ray, where it was found that she was “carrying a number of foreign objects”. Police then arrested her.

The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
