A fire broke out last night in two vehicles owned by a couple in the village of Tsada.

According to police, the fire broke out at 9:50 p.m. The cars were parked outside their residence.

Members of the Fire Department extinguished the fire before it spread to adjacent areas. The fire completely destroyed both vehicles. The scene was put under guard.

The examinations were resumed at first light of day by the Police and the Fire Brigade, in order to ascertain the exact causes of the fire.

Police arrested a seventh suspect, a 25-year-old man, on Thursday in connection with an ongoing case of conspiracy and forged documents.

According to an announcement by the Office of the Communication Branch of the Police Headquarters, this is a case of drawing up fake driving licenses of other European countries, as well as drawing up a fake residence permit in the Republic of Cyprus, for which six other persons, men aged between 21 and 44, were arrested in the previous days and remain in detention, pursuant to court orders.

Last Thursday, March 21, shortly before 3.30 pm, the 41-year-old suspect went to a courier company store in Paphos, where he received a package, which had been sent to Cyprus from abroad. Shortly afterwards, the 44-year-old and 36-year-old went to the same store, who received a package, which had been sent to Cyprus by the same sender, as the package, which had previously been received by the 41-year-old.

Immediately after receiving the two packages from the three suspects, upon their departure from the courier store, members of the Police and specifically of the Pafos ICF, stopped them for checking. During the check, ICF members found in the package received by the 41-year-old, two driving licenses from other European countries, with details of two different persons and in the package received by the 44-year-old and 36-year-old, they found a residence permit in Cyprus, with details of another person.

The three suspects were arrested by the members of the Police and the next day they were brought before the Pafos District Court, which issued detention orders for the purpose of investigating the case.

During the investigation of the case by the Pafos ICF, evidence emerged against the four other suspects, men aged 37, 27, 25 and 21, against whom judicial arrest warrants were issued and arrested, except for the 25-year-old. Yesterday afternoon, the 25-year-old suspect was also arrested and detained. The 37-year-old, 27-year-old and 21-year-old are also in custody under court detention orders.

The arrest of two persons, suspects in connection with an investigated case of drug trafficking, proceeded yesterday in the Limassol district by the Police and specifically the Anti-Narcotics Service – YKAN.

The two suspects, aged 48 and 30, were arrested for flagrant offences after a quantity of cannabis, weighing five (5) kilos and approximately 300 grams, was found in the car they were transporting in an area of Limassol.

Specifically, shortly before 4.00 pm on Thursday, the members of the YKAN stopped for inspection the car in which the two suspects were moving, driven by the 30-year-old. A search of the vehicle followed, where six nylon packages containing a quantity of cannabis, with a total gross weight of five kilograms and approximately 300 grams, were found in the seat behind the driver's seat, in a cardboard box.

The 48-year-old and 30-year-old were arrested for flagrant offences, as well as under court arrest warrants issued subsequently. The two were taken into custody for the purpose of investigating the drug trafficking case.

The Larnaca Permanent Assize Court imposed a 10-year prison sentence on Friday on a 67-year-old man for raping and abusing a girlfriend in December 2021 in the district of Larnaka.

Upon hearing the verdict, which was announced behind closed doors, the convict, according to philenews, began screaming and shouting, resulting in police officers who took him to the Court's detention center.

After a hearing, the defendant, who is Greek Cypriot, was found guilty of four counts of rape, sexual harassment, assault causing actual harm and sexual abuse by penetration.

The 67-year-old, who previously had relations with the 61-year-old, raped her on December 13, 2021 at his home in Larnaca district. He first restrained and beat her and then raped her, while she tried in every way to escape.

The main witness in the case was the complainant, who described to the Court the horrible things she experienced.

The Police arrested a 40-year-old resident of Larnaca yesterday to facilitate investigations into an investigated case of car arson, committed in the early morning of March 25, 2024, in Larnaca.

Against the 40-year-old, testimony emerged during the investigation of the case, on the basis of which a judicial arrest warrant was issued against him. This morning, the 40-year-old appeared before the Larnaca District Court, which issued an eight-day detention order against him.

The fire in the car broke out around 2:15 a.m. March 25, while the vehicle was parked in an open area, next to the house of its 41-year-old owner, in Aradippou. Members of the Fire Department extinguished the fire, which completely destroyed the vehicle.

Subsequent examinations revealed that the fire was set maliciously.

Aradippou Police Station is investigating the case.
