Filenews

Under the microscope of the investigators of the ICF of Limassol have been put what the 31-year-old Ukrainian victim of the robbery committed at noon, outside a seaside café in Germasogeia, has been put under the microscope.

The case raises dozens of questions that cause concern to the members of the investigation team, such as the fact that it is a huge amount of money of €420,000 in cash and with the complainant having placed it in her bag, without taking precautions. The amount appears to have been declared during the customs check carried out on the 31-year-old when she arrived at Larnaka Airport, however, various possibilities are being investigated.

The 31-year-old said she arrived in Cyprus two hours before the robbery and then took a taxi where she dropped her off outside a well-known café in Limassol to drink coffee, while she initially intended to invest the money in buying an apartment in Limassol. As soon as she got out of the taxi, a large displacement motorcycle approached her and her passenger grabbed her bag. The two attackers then fled.

The 31-year-old initially claimed in her complaint that she would invest the €420,000 to buy an apartment, but gave no further details about the investment. She then claimed that she came to Cyprus to surprise her boyfriend, but then changed it, saying that he is abroad. Asked to give his details, she refused and asked to speak to a lawyer. Among other things, she claimed that she often comes to Cyprus since she has friends who reside on the island.

It should be noted that before informing the authorities, the 31-year-old entered the premises, sat at the reception and then called the police.

What the 31-year-old claims in her complaint has been put under the microscope of the investigators of the ICF of Limassol, but, as reported by Philenews, there seem to be reservations while various possibilities are being investigated, not even ruling out a well-planned plan.

The same information states that the movements of the two masked men, who were riding on the large displacement motorcycle, have been recorded by closed-circuit surveillance.

Update: Police are investigating a money laundering case for which a 31-year-old woman was arrested last night. The suspect was placed in five-day detention, pursuant to a court order issued this morning by the Nicosia District Court, for the purpose of investigating the case.

According to philenews, the suspect is not cooperating with the investigating authorities. She makes various allegations such as that she gave the money she brought to Cyprus to a friend, without giving further information.

According to the evidence under investigation, the 31-year-old suspect, during the period between August, 2023 and March, 2024, repeatedly flew to Cyprus as a visitor, declaring to the customs authorities of the Republic the transfer of large sums of money, which she had in her possession, upon her arrivals at Larnaka and Paphos airports. These amounts appear to total EUR 6 million.

In the morning hours of March 1, the 31-year-old arrived by plane in Cyprus, where also upon arrival at the airport, she declared to the customs authorities, the transfer of a large amount of money, which she had in her possession.

From the examinations carried out so far by the police in the context of the investigation of her case, the31-year-old does not seem to have given sufficient explanations about the origin of the money and the reasons for its transfer to Cyprus. A case of participation in a criminal organization, participation in and acceptance of crimes, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit a felony is being investigated against her.

The case is being investigated by the ICF Headquarters.
