In the waters of Cyprus now two warships. One is a French frigate as well as the attack ship USS BATAAN belonging to the US Navy.
The French frigate – a United Nations mission – arrived in the country last Friday with a fleet of 270 people and departs on Wednesday.
As for the American ship, it docked yesterday morning and is expected to leave the island on Thursday. It arrived with a crew of 3,300 and can respond to dangerous missions or contingencies, respond to humanitarian crises, reassure allies and promote the free flow of maritime trade. It is 257 meters long and can accommodate helicopters.
The team of the 26th Naval Expeditionary Unit performs routine docking, refuelling and respite. This also highlights the strong ties between Cyprus and the United States, as the US ambassador said.
