THE FIRST MOVEMENT OF A PETROL STATION FROM THE CENTRE OF PAPHOS

Filenews 12 February 2024 - by Dora Christodoulou

The implementation of the decision for the first relocation of a petrol station from the commercial centre of Pafos is historic, mainly for the prospects it creates in the near future.

For a few days now, the petrol station, managed by the long-time president of the Pafos Petrol Stations Association, Andreas Kommatos, has moved its operations to the brand new facilities that have been erected on Apostolou Pavlou Avenue, which leads to the port of Kato Paphos, so that the space on Evagoras Pallikarides Avenue, in the city centre, can be handed over to the municipal authority for development.

The relocation of the first petrol station from the centre of Pafos, which has been operating on a piece of Turkish Cypriot property since 1948, follows the long-standing efforts of the Municipality and other bodies for the gradual transfer of these businesses outside the central fabric of the city. This development is of particular importance today, since the part occupied by this service station has already been included in the project of the Creation of the Historical Documentation Centre of the City of Pafos and the Landscaping of the Surrounding Area, thus being included as an integral part in the green space and accesses that will be created within the framework of the project.

In this direction, the contribution of the T/C Management Service, Hellenic Petroleum Cyprus Ltd and the petrol station owner, Andreas Kommatos, was significant.
