After many delays and postponements, the unit will officially operate next Wednesday, while on Thursday or Friday the Minister of Health Michalis Damianos is expected to be in Paphos to inspect the real jewel of the Paphos General Hospital.

The unit, which is located on the back side of the Paphos Hospital, next to the chapel, was built on the basis of European specifications and has the ability to develop up to 27 dialysis stations depending on the needs of the Paphos District.

In addition to the normal Haemodialysis Unit, the new Unit will have a separate Haemodialysis Unit for HIV-positive patients (Hepatitis B carriers) the so-called yellow unit, which has not existed until now, with the result that patients from Paphos have to travel three times a week to Nicosia for to undergo haemodialysis.

The needs of the Paphos District with this Unit are guaranteed for at least 15 years based on the planning that was done, as the director of the nephrology clinic of the Paphos Hospital, Dr. Lakis Giukkas, said in his recent statements.

The existing unit, as PafosPress is informed, will operate for the last time next Tuesday afternoon.
