GREEN LIGHT FOR 1000 ELECTRIC VEHICLE RECHARGING POINTS PROJECT

After the green light given by the Commissioner of State Aid Control Stella Michaelidou for the "Subsidy Scheme for the installation of 1000 electric vehicle recharging points – "Electromobility with 1000" (Phase B), the decision of the Council of Ministers remains to be implemented.

Specifically, the Measure is included in the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) of Cyprus for the period 2022 – 2026 and will be funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility of the European Union (EU), under Measure C2.2I2.

The Measure aims to promote electromobility through the development of an extensive network of electric vehicle recharging points (with the ultimate goal of installing at least 1,000 publicly accessible points).

The competent Authority for the implementation of the Measure is the Department of Electromechanical Services of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works.

The budget of this Measure (Phase B) amounts to €2,500,000. The total budget of the Measure, which includes both Phases (A and B), amounts to €3,700,000.

The duration of the implementation of the Measure will be the period 2024 – 2026.

Beneficiaries of the Measure are all categories of enterprises, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Large Enterprises, which are or will be established in Cyprus, except in areas where the Government of the Republic of Cyprus does not exercise effective control due to the Turkish invasion.

Decision No. 449 has been posted on the website of the Office of the Commissioner of State Aid Control.

The EU Law based on the above Decision is:

• REGULATION (EU) COMMISSION REGULATION (EC) No 651/2014 of 17 June 2014 declaring certain categories of aid compatible with the internal market in application of Articles 107 and 108 of the Treaty"[1] (Article 36a – "Investment aid for recharging or refuelling infrastructure").

This Measure was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic dated 9 February 2024 and will enter into force after the issuance of the Decision of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus.
