An organized gang of Romanian burglars who preferred churches and chapels was dismantled by the police.
So far, two Romanian adults aged 20 and 21 have been arrested, a 16-year-old compatriot and another 44-year-old Romanian who is alleged to be the mastermind of the gang.
Recently, more than ten cases of burglaries have been reported, mainly of isolated churches and chapels in various areas of Pafos from which small amounts of money as well as other ecclesiastical objects were stolen.

A coordinated operation was carried out by the Pafos Police to prevent road collisions in which one driver was found driving under the influence of drugs, while another 23 complaints were made concerning minor traffic offences.
According to the Police, at 22:45 on Tuesday, a "Z" team of the Pafos Traffic Police stopped a vehicle with a 20-year-old driver for inspection.
In a drug test he was given a positive indication. An additional sample was sent to the General Chemical State Laboratory for further laboratory tests. The 20-year-old is expected to be charged in writing at a later stage upon receipt of the result.
Also, during the vehicle checks of 75 vehicles intercepted in a twenty-four hour period by the Police, a total of 24 traffic complaints emerged.
Coordinated police operations to prevent road collisions continue.

Police arrested five persons yesterday in connection with ongoing cases of facilitation of illegal entry, transit and stay of third-country nationals on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.
They are five 22-year-olds who were arrested on court warrants and taken into custody. This morning they were brought before the Nicosia District Court for detention orders.
The Court issued eight-day detention orders against the three suspects, while ordering that the other two suspects remain in custody and appear again before the Court next Thursday, February 22, for the examination of the Police's request for their detention and its decision.
The suspects are being investigated, inter alia, for offences of conspiracy to commit a felony, facilitation of illegal entry, transit and stay in the territory of the Republic and migrant smuggling.
The cases under investigation concern the arrival of irregular migrants between 18 and 19 February in the Nicosia district.

Police located and seized a quantity of 4 kilos and 771 grams of cannabis yesterday.
As part of the investigation, one person, a 52-year-old man, was arrested.
Part of the quantity of cannabis (2 kg and 177 grams) was found in the 52-year-old's car last night, after he was stopped for a check made in an area of Limassol.
Subsequently, a search was carried out at his home, during which a quantity of cannabis weighing 2 kg and 594 grams was found, as well as a quantity of cocaine weighing 99 grams.
In addition to narcotics, during searches of his vehicle and home, a sum of money amounting to approximately €14,000 was also found.
The 52-year-old was arrested on a court warrant and taken into custody to facilitate interrogations.

Members of the Police handcuffed a 30-year-old man for burglary and theft of a fruit shop in Limassol.
According to the police, at 6.30 am on Tuesday, a 46-year-old fruit shop owner complained to the ICF of Limassol that at dawn a burglary was committed in his fruit shop and the amount of 200 euros in banknotes and coins was stolen from the cashier. In addition, he complained that damage amounting to 300 euros was caused to a glass case of the premises.
Members of the ICF of Limassol rushed to the scene, while the examinations found that the entrance of the perpetrator was made possible by the eastern sliding aluminium window of which the glass shattered. There is a closed circuit surveillance system at the premises, while the evaluation of the material revealed that the perpetrator is a 30-year-old man from Limassol.
The scene was finger print tested with a negative result, while he was remanded in custody for further examinations. A judicial arrest warrant was obtained against the suspect.
On Tuesday afternoon, members of the ICF of Limassol, following a coordinated operation, located and arrested the wanted person, pursuant to a judicial arrest warrant. The 30-year-old, under oral questioning, denied any involvement in the case under investigation and was detained in the detention facilities of the Limassol Police Authority.
Under oral questioning, the suspect reportedly denies any involvement in the case. Examinations are ongoing.
Moreover, the ICF of Limassol proceeded to the arrest of two 17-year-olds, suspected of two burglaries committed at the home of a 58-year-old man, on the evening of 12 and 14 February.
According to police, 550 euros in cash and jewellery were stolen in the first burglary, while in the second burglary, a television and a fan were stolen.
