The 41-year-old, who was arrested on Friday morning (16/02) on suspicion of the arson of a well-known bar-restaurant located on Makarios III Avenue in Limassol and committed at dawn on Tuesday (06/02), denies involvement.

The 41-year-old was brought on the same day before the Limassol District Court, which ordered his detention for a period of 6 days, until the completion of the examinations. According to "F", the suspect was arrested based on scientific testimony as his DNA was linked to a lighter that was located and received from the scene as evidence.

According to the same information, this is a person who has previously dealt with the authorities in various cases. For the time being, the motives remain unknown with the investigators of the ICF Limassol not ruling out the possibility that other persons behind the case may be involved. The 41-year-old claimed he had nothing to do with the case.

It is recalled that under the microscope of the investigators, closed circuit surveillance of premises adjacent to the scene of the arson had been set from the first moment, some of which recorded the movements of the perpetrator. The study of the closed circuits found that the perpetrator was wearing a hood and after throwing an object with flammable material, he then fled.

In their testimonies, both the 51-year-old owner of the premises and the owner of the building expressed ignorance of the motives, saying that they have no differences with any person.

The fire on the outdoor closed terrace of the premises was noticed at 1:15 in the morning on Tuesday (06/02) and was extinguished by members of the Limassol OPE who were on patrol in the area. Members of the Force using a fire extinguisher managed to extinguish the fire before it spread. The fire caused minor damage to equipment and the glass entrance door.
