A malicious act is attributed prima facie to a fire that exploded around nine last night in a vehicle belonging to a 36-year-old Greek Cypriot.

The 36-year-old owns a café and the vehicle was parked in the parking lot of his residence in Konya.

The fire was extinguished by the fire department before it spread and before causing further damage. The scene has been cordoned off and further tests will be carried out today.

A 68-year-old resident of the Pafos district reported to the Police that, on July 20, 2023, he had reached an agreement with a 61-year-old resident of the Pafos district that the latter would construct six small metal houses in an area next to his house.

According to the complaint, the 68-year-old allegedly made cash and cheque payments to the 61-year-old, totalling €142,500.

The 61-year-old reportedly initially carried out some work but ultimately allegedly did not proceed with the construction of the metal houses.

A court warrant was issued against the 61-year-old under which he was arrested this morning and taken into custody.

A stolen car was spotted being driven on a Limassol road by a police patrol. The 45-year-old driver was stopped and arrested.

Specifically, at around 11 p.m. yesterday, members of the Limassol OPE, who were on motorized patrol, spotted a car moving on Franklin Roosevelt Street, in Limassol, which had been reported as stolen.

Members of the Police intercepted the vehicle and found that it was driven by a 45-year-old resident of Limassol. The 45-year-old was arrested for a flagrant offence and taken into custody, while the vehicle was taken to a police station for further examinations.

The car, owned by a 65-year-old man, was stolen on the night of 9-10 February 2024, while it was parked outside its owner's home in Limassol.

The ICF Limassol continues the examinations.

Cyprus Police

Intensive, coordinated controls for the prevention of criminal acts and road conflicts were carried out in the last three days in Limassol. During their duration, more than 100 drivers were identified and reported for various traffic offences, while members of the Police proceeded to arrest three persons. The checks by the members of the Limassol Police Department included, among other things, checks of premises, nightclubs and vehicles, as well as patrol coverage in various areas of the city and province of Limassol. A total of 388 vehicles and 429 persons were stopped and checked, while 288 drivers were tested for alcohol. Of these, 36 drivers tested positive and were reported for the offense of driving under the influence of alcohol. Another 136 traffic violations were also identified from the controls. Extra-judicial fines were issued for 104 of them, while the remaining 32 traffic cases are being investigated by the Limassol Traffic Police. At the same time, eight vehicles were confiscated by the Police, due to illegal conversions and other crimes. As part of the checks, the members of the Police proceeded to arrest three persons for various offences. This is a foreigner, who during the check was found to be in Cyprus illegally, a 24-year-old man who allegedly attacked a member of the Police and a 45-year-old man who was found driving a stolen car.

Police checks continue daily in all provinces, to prevent the commission of serious and other crimes, but also to reduce fatal and serious road collisions.
