In the context of collecting and evaluating data related to the possession of duty-free tobacco products, members of the Limassol OPE yesterday placed under discreet surveillance a vehicle parked in a parking lot in Limassol.
Around 1 p.m., a 60-year-old person was seen approaching the above vehicle with another car and was immediately stopped by the members of the Police.
In a subsequent search, a quantity of duty-free tobacco products was found in both vehicles.
The 60-year-old was arrested for a flagrant offence while the two vehicles were sealed and transported by trailers to the Limassol Customs Department where during the search conducted by the members of Customs, 617 boxes of cigarettes of various brands, 508 boxes of heated cigarettes of various brands, 12 kg and 450 grams of wrapped tobacco as well as 16 kg of hookah tobacco were found in them.
All the above, as well as the two vehicles, were confiscated by the Limassol Customs Department, which continues the examinations, while the 60-year-old was detained.

The 39-year-old suspect who was arrested for possession of explosives, a firearm and a large number of tools and machinery was detained today by the Limassol Court for a period of four days.
During questioning, the suspect did not want to answer the investigators' questions, while a large quantity of tools and building materials was found at his residence, which according to the police, may be the products of thefts and burglaries.
As philenews reports, the 39-year-old is a person who is prohibited from owning a firearm and does not hold a license of any weapon since he is exempt from the army with I5 paper. The gun was found during the search, under the coffee table at the 39-year-old's home, while cartridges and a military-style bullet were found in a glass jar.
According to the Police, in the context of investigating a case of burglary and theft committed between January 20 and February 4, at a house in the Melini community, in the Larnaka district, members of the Kalo Chorio and Lefkara police stations searched the suspect's home and premises yesterday afternoon, pursuant to a court warrant. During the search, one flobert firearm, of unknown brand and with a missing number, one 7.62mm military cartridge, four counterfeit flobert cartridges, three other flobert cartridges and three unknown type of cartridges were located and received.
It was determined that the 39-year-old does not possess any firearm licence and was arrested for flagrant offences.
