ANOTHER 144 IRREGULAR MIGRANTS ARRIVED IN CYPRUS YESTERDAY

Another 144 irregular migrants arrived in Cyprus yesterday.

Specifically, around 17:00 yesterday, a boat carrying twenty-one irregular migrants, all from Syria, was stopped southeast of Cape Greco by a boat of the Port and Maritime Police. They are 12 men, 2 women and 7 children, 3 unaccompanied.

The migrants were safely transported to the Ayia Napa marina where their details were recorded. A 20-year-old man who appears to have been the boat's navigator was arrested.

The remaining 20 irregular migrants were transferred to the Pournara Migrant Temporary Accommodation Centre in Kokkinotrimithia.

The second boat was spotted at 19:00 southeast of Cape Greco and was carrying 96 irregular migrants from Syria. They are 65 men, 6 women and 25 children, 14 unaccompanied.

The irregular migrants were safely transported to Ayia Napa Marina where their details were recorded.

A 49-year-old man was arrested after appearing to be the boat's navigator.

The remaining ninety-five irregular migrants were transferred to the Pournara Migrant Temporary Accommodation Centre in Kokkinotrimithia.

The two arrested are expected to appear today before the Famagusta District Court for detention orders.

Meanwhile, at 23:30 yesterday, 27 irregular migrants from Syria were spotted wandering in the community of Troullo.

They are 24 men, two women and one child.

They were transferred to the Pournara Migrant Temporary Accommodation Centre.
