The Meteorological Service has issued a yellow warning for severe weather phenomena that are expected to affect Cyprus from the afternoon.
In particular, a combination of rain and isolated thunderstorms will affect the region, particularly the west and south coasts. Total rainfall locally could exceed 50 mm in six hours.
The warning will be in effect from 17:00 this afternoon until 12 noon tomorrow.

On Friday afternoon the weather will be mostly cloudy with localized rain or isolated thunderstorms initially in the west and gradually in the rest of the areas. Snow or sleet is expected to fall on the highest peaks of Troodos and locally on the higher mountains. The winds will blow mainly southwest to northwest, strong and locally to very strong, 5 to 6 Beaufort and the sea will be turbulent to wavy.
Tonight the weather will be mostly cloudy with localised showers and isolated thunderstorms. Snow or sleet is expected to fall on the highest peaks of Troodos and locally on the higher mountains. The winds will blow mainly southwest to northwest, mild to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and locally on the coast, moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be turbulent. The temperature will drop to 8 degrees in the interior, 12 degrees on the coast and 1 degree in the higher mountains, where frost is expected to form locally.
Tomorrow Saturday the weather will be mostly cloudy with localised showers and isolated thunderstorms. Snow or sleet is expected to fall on the highest peaks of Troodos and locally on the higher mountains. The winds will blow initially variable, weak, 3 Beaufort and gradually northwest to northeast, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be a little turbulent. The temperature will rise to 15 degrees in the interior and on the coast and 5 degrees in the higher mountains, where locally frost may prevail.
On Sunday and Monday the weather will be partly cloudy and at times mostly cloudy with the possibility of isolated rain, while on Tuesday it will become mostly cloudy with localised showers and isolated thunderstorms. The temperature will gradually rise over the three days to fluctuate slightly above the average climatic values.
