THE ISSUE OF AKAMAS IN THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

 Pafos Live 28 January 2024

The serious problems arising due to the catastrophic works in Akamas, the way they are managed by the government and President Christodoulides himself, the callousness and sloppiness that have been shown for the most ecologically sensitive area in Cyprus, are being debated in the European Parliament.

The International Relations Committee of the Green Movement – Citizens' Cooperation officially informed the Green group in the European Parliament about the events in Akamas on December 4, 2023. There was extensive information about the catastrophic works that took place on the peninsula and about what – confusing or not – came to light at the time.

The contacts and actions of the Green Movement – Citizens' Cooperation, according to a relevant announcement, mobilized the European Greens, who in turn informed the European Commission. The issue of Akamas and the latest developments on the works on the peninsula are put up for discussion on February 14, 2024, triggering an existing complaint by Friends of the Earth Cyprus that had been frozen.

The Green Movement – Citizens' Cooperation will continue the effort to save Akamas, both at local and European level.

In addition, at the upcoming European Green Congress, which starts on February 2nd in Lyon, France, the President of the Movement, Mr. George Perdikis and the Secretary of International Relations, Mrs. Alexia Sakadaki, will raise the issue of Akamas for discussion and information.

The fight to save Akamas is a matter that concerns all of us and our efforts will intensify until the peninsula is saved.
