STUDENTS FROM CHINA UNIVERSITY IN PAPHOS

An international, educational, residency program for 30 students, together with their professors, from Zhejiang University, China, which is among the top forty universities worldwide based on international ranking lists, is organized by the newly built School of Tourism, Hospitality and Entrepreneurship Management of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), based in Paphos.

The programme, entitled "Winter Archaeology Project", will take place between 20 January 2024 and 1 February 2024 and aims to combine lectures and educational visits related to the prehistoric and historical archaeology of the island in free Cyprus, in collaboration with both CUT academics and officers of the Department of Antiquities, Deputy Ministry of Culture of Cyprus.

The "Winter Archaeology Project" focuses on reporting, informing and visiting a representative sample of archaeological sites on the island, covering examples from all prehistoric and historical periods. The program includes a series of daily lectures, which will take place in the 'state of art' Auditoriums of the School.

Professor Anastasios Zopiatis will give the opening lecture on "The tourist hospitality industry of Cyprus", followed by a lecture by Dr Annita Antoniadou entitled "Introduction to Cypriot Archaeology – the evolution of excavations on the island".

The agenda of the programme will focus on aspects of history, archaeology, cultural heritage, in relation to the development of tourism in Cyprus. The aim of the programme is for Chinese students to engage in a lively dialogue with Cypriot culture, through an interdisciplinary series of seminars, activities, workshops and visits to historical sites in Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca and Nicosia.

In addition, Chinese students will attend Greek language courses, with instructors from the Language Center of CUT, they will be taught techniques for digitizing archaeological sites by the PhD candidate, Mr. Christo Andreev, as well as techniques for digital collection and three-dimensional visualization of finds, enhancing the practical specialization of the participants, beyond the theoretical part.

With the contribution of the Cyprus Academy of Tourism and Hospitality Professions, which recently opened its doors in the city of Paphos, an experiential cooking workshop in interaction groups will be conducted under the direction of the trainer chef Elena Lazarou and in collaboration with local students, which will conclude the seminar entitled "Exploring the world of food consumption in ancient Cyprus" by Dr Annita Antoniadou.

The program will be completed with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two Universities, on January 31, 2024, at the Rector's building of CUT, which is now a strong academic partner of the state in key fields.

The Cyprus University of Technology constantly proves that it is on an upward path of growth and extroversion, and its presence is now expanding worldwide. The School of Tourism, Hospitality and Entrepreneurship Management, a product of the partnership between the Local Authority, the Cyprus University of Technology and Technology with the support of the state, plays, in its very first months of life in Pafos, a decisive role in matters of education and social contribution.

In addition, the School, listening to international developments in the fields of tourism and hospitality management, has set its goal to evolve into an ambitious, bold and extrovert space, in the ever-changing environment of the tourism industry. The accommodation of the School in one of the most modern buildings in Cyprus is an important milestone, as it marks the expansion of CUT, but also its commitment to provide high quality education and training in the fields of tourism, hospitality and entrepreneurship.
