There is an increase in incidents of theft of equipment and other assets from the EAC Electricity Distribution Network.
The Electricity Authority of Cyprus informs the public that there has recently been an increase in incidents of theft of equipment and other assets from the EAC Electricity Distribution Network. Specifically, the thefts mainly concern transformers mounted on wooden poles, overhead Medium and Low Voltage pipelines of the EAC Network, Network equipment within the Distribution Substation buildings as well as switches, poles, doors/entrances of Distribution Substations, etc.
EAC points out that the removal of equipment from an activated EAC Network, apart from being a criminal offence, is extremely dangerous as there is an immediate risk of electric shock, both for those who remove the equipment from the Network and for the general public. In addition, these interventions to the EAC Network may also cause damage to consumers' electrical appliances.
The Organization in cooperation with the Police has decided to take technical and other measures to prevent theft and protect the Network.
The public is kindly requested to be particularly careful and under no circumstances to enter the interior of a Distribution Substation from which the door was removed. Also, do not approach damaged EAC Network or equipment. If the public notices a door removed from an EAC Distribution Substation, suspicious movements of persons or vehicles near the EAC Network, which do not bear the Organisation's markings and logos, they are kindly requested to contact EAC immediately at 80006002 or 1800 to take the necessary measures.
