The Police recommend the public's attention to new types of phone scams through the WhatsApp application which falsely pretend to be the Cyprus Police.
Specifically, fraudsters through the communication application – WhatsApp, call unsuspecting citizens to a video call, falsely pretending to communicate on behalf of the Police.
The communication is done in English and the professionals ask the citizens to declare their various personal and banking details. (Demonstration of ID, debit/credit cards, etc.).
The aforementioned phone calls are the product of fraud and do not come from the Police.
The public is invited to be particularly attentive and:
Do NOT respond to calls and instructions received from fraudsters.
Not respond to any links sent.
Do not reveal to others, codes that they may have received on their mobile phone.
In case bank data were declared during such a call, the public should IMMEDIATELY inform their Banking Institution to avoid unwanted use of their data.
