 Filenews

With the recommendation that he be prosecuted for the offence of homicide, the examiners of the Limassol Traffic Police transmit this morning the file with the examinations and investigations of the quadruple fatality that occurred 30 minutes after the New Year came at a photo-controlled intersection in Limassol, leading to the death of four people.

As philenews learns, the examiners of the Limassol Traffic Police recommend the criminal prosecution of the 44-year-old driver for the offence of homicide, but the final decision will be taken by the Legal Service after studying the file.

Subsequently, the examiners of the Traffic Police, after receiving the appropriate instructions, are expected around 12 noon to lead the 44-year-old driver of the double cab before the Limassol District Court. The case, depending on the instructions given, will be registered in court and it will be decided whether the 44-year-old will remain in custody or not.

If the 44-year-old is prosecuted for the offence of homicide, then the case will be referred for trial before the Permanent Assize Court of Limassol.

It is recalled that the re-enactment conducted by experts of the Limassol Traffic Police and the Limassol District Unit clarified some issues that seem to have contributed decisively to the occurrence of the traffic collision with tragic results.

During the re-enactment, according to our information, the final positions of the vehicles, their weight, weather conditions, lighting and other factors were taken into account.  What was clarified was that the driver was moving at a speed above the limit (it is 50km) and appears to be preliminarily approaching 90km. The driver appears to have passed in red, while he claims the opposite.

As mentioned in a previous publication, the video played an important role in calculating the speed of the double cab. As explained to "F", the time the vehicle is seen until the time of collision is timed and based on scientific calculations the speed is estimated.

The Permanent Assize Court, which met today in Larnaka, sentenced a 47-year-old man to 15 years in prison after finding him guilty in connection with a case involving the illegal importation of drugs and possession of drugs with the intention of supplying to another person.

According to the facts, 36 kilos of drugs were found in two travel luggage of the 46-year-old, who travelled by air to Cyprus, from a third country, with a stopover in Europe, on 29 June.  During the trip, his luggage was transported on a separate flight to the same country in Europe, and then transported on a separate flight to Cyprus.

After providing the Cyprus Police with relevant information about the quantity of cannabis that was in the luggage, YKAN, in cooperation with the Department of Customs, proceeded to collect the two bags upon their arrival in Cyprus. When checking the luggage, it was found that it belonged to the 46-year-old suspect.
