Pafos Police arrested a 26-year-old man to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of theft of property.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, on 4 January information was given that a car was parked on a specific street in Paphos and a person behaving suspiciously was inside. Members of the Paphos Police went there and found that inside the vehicle was a 26-year-old person who did not own the specific car. Examinations revealed that the vehicle belonged to another person, also a 31-year-old permanent resident of Cyprus.

It was found that the 26-year-old was in possession of a number of keys to other cars and tried to start the vehicle he was in with the wrong key. Under questioning, the 26-year-old did not give satisfactory explanations and was arrested for illegal possession of property and is in custody.

In the context of investigation and evaluation of evidence, members of the YKAN stopped at around 5 yesterday afternoon for inspection in a village in the district of Larnaka, a car driven by a 21-year-old resident of the district of Larnaka.

During the search carried out, 20 kg and 669 grams of cannabis were found inside the vehicle and confiscated as evidence, while the 21-year-old was arrested for flagrant offences.

A search of his home followed where another 21kg and 303g of cannabis were found, which were also seized as evidence.

As part of the investigation of the case, members of the YKAN stopped for inspection at around 5.30 in the afternoon of the same day, a car that was moving on a road in Larnaka and was driven by a 57-year-old resident of Larnaca. In a search, a syringe containing cannabis oil was found inside the vehicle and the 57-year-old was arrested for a flagrant offence.

A search of his home followed, where various documents were received for further examination.

The above persons were re-arrested on the basis of court warrants and detained while the YKAN (Larnaca Unit) continues the examinations.

An African residing illegally on the territory of the republic attacked and beat members of the Aliens and Immigration Service. The attack took place inside the offices of the YAM in Paphos.

The young African became furious when he was informed that the procedure for his deportation would be followed. The corpulent African injured one police officer and two others, lighter, when they tried to restrain and arrest him after their colleague was attacked.

The Famagusta District Court yesterday sentenced two men aged 24 and 25 to three years and six months in prison respectively after finding them guilty, the first on charges of prohibited immigrant and aiding irregular migrants to enter the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and the second on the charge of prohibited migrant.

The offences were committed on September 7, 2023, when a boat was spotted off Cape Greco with a total of 28 people on board.

The Oroklini Police are seeking testimony through closed surveillance circuits in order to identify and arrest the group of about 20 youths who threw firecrackers and Molotov cocktails on Thursday night outside a school in Livadia, Larnaka.

When a fire truck rushed to the scene to extinguish the fires they caused, the youths started throwing stones at the firefighters, fortunately without any injuries.

The Police and Fire Brigade were informed about the action of the youths around 9 pm by residents of the area, who reported that unknown people threw firecrackers and Molotov cocktails outside a school, resulting in fires in the area. When police cars arrived in the area, the youths fled and disappeared into the darkness.

According to police, no damage was caused to the school or other property by the youths' actions.

An explosive device was placed and exploded today outside the offices of KISA organization in Nicosia.

According to the police press office, the explosion occurred at 02:30 in the morning causing damage to a glass case.

A team of the ICF of Nicosia arrived at the scene, who found that the explosion was due to the detonation of an improvised explosive device.

Various documents were received for scientific examinations. At the moment, no specific suspicions arise about the perpetrators.
