A well-known lawyer appeared in the dock on Wednesday morning (10/1) before the Limassol District Court, accused of fraud and transfer of real estate with a forged power of attorney, but also of racketing millions of euros through pyramid-type investments in Limassol and Nicosia.
This is the well-known case, which saw the light of day recently, with the accused allegedly deceiving not only the financial elite of Cyprus but also persons from the underworld.
Her co-defendant in the case, which is being heard in the Limassol Court, is also a certifying employee, who is accused of assisting the defendant in order to commit fraudulent transactions with real estate.
During yesterday's proceedings before the Court, which was attended by "F", the two defendants were asked to respond to the multi-page indictment. They were charged with a total of 13 charges, most of them involving the lawyer, who pleaded not guilty to all charges. A second defendant did the same.
The multi-page indictment includes offences of conspiracy to commit a felony, such as fraud in the sale of immovable property, fraudulent transactions in immovable property belonging to another person, preparation of a false document and circulation of a false document, money laundering (€450,000) and fraud, after being accused of drawing up a forged power of attorney, which the defendant allegedly signed using the name of an Israeli, company director and property owner. She is also accused of drawing up a two-page document, which does not correspond to reality, and circulating this document. It includes a charge of acquiring and possessing a sum of €450,000, which constitutes income from the commission of a predicate offense and finally, concealment of a document for real estate titles.
The 2nd defendant is accused of assisting the defendant in committing a criminal offence, i.e. fraud in the sale or mortgaging of property, as well as assisting in fraudulent transactions in immovable property.
According to the indictment, the offences were committed on August 28 and 30, 2023, against an Israeli, a client of the accused lawyer. Following the failure of the two defendants to admit, the Court set the case for the start of the hearing in early June 2024.
The complaint made to the ICF of Limassol concerns forgery of a power of attorney document of an Israeli, owner of real estate and specifically five apartments worth more than half a million, which he owned. It appears that the properties were transferred fraudulently and with false documents to another person, in order to obtain money. The 2nd accused is alleged to be the person who certified the signature of the complainant on the forged document by which the sale and transfer of the properties took place. All 5 apartments were transferred to a specific person.
In the meantime, the ICF of Limassol is investigating another case against this lawyer, which concerns similar offenses, but the case has not yet been registered with the Court, as "F" is awaited, the graphological examinations.

A defendant acquitted in a case of possession and possession with intent to supply cannabis identified in 2016 and tried in 2021 will sit in the dock again in 2024.
The Court of Appeal, in a multi-page decision, annulled the acquittal decision with negative comments about the court of first instance, referring to a slippage in its judgment. The case came to light on 8/12/2016 when YKAN had conducted a search at a farmhouse in Frenaros. He found cannabis weighing 96.41 grams as well as two persons. One person had admitted and was convicted while the second denied involvement and a hearing was held where he was acquitted.
In his appeal, the Attorney General argued that the court erred in acquitting him, since his genetic material had been found in several packages of cannabis and in a bag in which they had been placed.
The Court of Appeal held that the discovery of genetic material on so many cannabis packages, as well as on the bag, was additional evidence of circumstantial testimony, which made it firmly concluded that the respondent was involved in the possession of the cannabis packages. "All the scenarios that had been put forward, namely sneezing, shaking hands and innocent previous touching in a bag inside the car were not even up for discussion since nothing relevant emerged from the totality of the testimony," the ruling said.
The Court of Appeal also disagreed with the first instance finding that the respondent touched the drugs "unknowingly as to their future use by another person". The only safe and reasonable conclusion was that he had full knowledge of both the species and the purpose for which it was intended. The existing circumstantial testimony, it is emphasized, is incompatible with any other reasonable interpretation or conclusion.
Nor do we agree with the argument that this is a case in which the accused had mere knowledge of possession by another person. The genetic material showed involvement in the actual process of packaging the drugs, that is to say, their preparation for supply to third parties, the joint arrival and engagement with them confirmed the cooperation of the two and the respondent's escape by attempting to conceal it sealed the conclusion that he was in possession of the quantity in question.
On the basis of all the above, the first instance judgment is set aside and replaced by a judgment of conviction, finding the Respondent guilty on both charges, the Court of Appeal concluded.
Finally, it is noted that the Court stressed that the defendant's answer was misinterpreted when he was caught by the YKAN that "I came to see my friend", which as stated constitutes an incorrect application of the relevant jurisprudence principles and to whatever extent it affected the Court's judgment, the statement was wrongly accepted.
