Police actions to combat illegal employment and illegal employment offences
Four cases of illegal employment, and illegal stay arose during yesterday's operations/checks carried out by the Police on a number of premises in the districts of Nicosia, Larnaka and Paphos.
During the checks, five persons were arrested, who were found to be working illegally in various premises, while cases of illegal employment are being investigated against their employers.
Two of the cases of illegal employment and illegal employment arose in the Nicosia district (in a factory and catering establishment), one in the district of Larnaka (in a catering establishment) and one in the district of Paphos (she worked as a domestic worker).
The actions of the Police to combat the offences of illegal employment continue on a daily basis.

Police arrested three people, men aged 46, 37 and 47, as part of an investigation into a case of abduction or abduction or deprivation of liberty for the purpose of secret and unfair confinement. The suspects were taken into custody, with the ICF Headquarters investigating the case.
The three suspects were arrested by members of the police shortly after midnight last night, pursuant to court warrants, following evidence that the offences under investigation had been committed. According to the evidence under investigation, the offences were allegedly committed yesterday, Tuesday, January 09.
The three suspects are specifically being investigated for conspiracy to commit a felony, conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor, abduction or kidnapping or deprivation of liberty of a person for the purpose of concealed and unjust confinement, possession/transfer of handcuffs without permission, participation in a criminal organization, and participation in and acceptance of the commission of crimes.

A 43-year-old person is wanted by the Police in Paphos to facilitate the investigations for an investigated case of residential burglary and theft.
According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations Michalis Nikolaou, yesterday a 26-year-old complained that his residence was broken into. The house's closed circuit surveillance showed that the burglary took place on January 8.
The stolen property has a total value of just over €1000.
Members of the Paphos TAE attended the scene and on-site examinations showed that entry was achieved through a closed but unsecured sliding balcony door.
Through the images recorded by the closed circuit surveillance, Mr. Nikolaou told KYPE, a 43-year-old person has been identified, who has engaged the Police in similar cases.
An arrest warrant was issued against the 43 year old and he is wanted.

The Paphos Police are looking for two persons to facilitate investigations for a case of conspiracy to commit a felony and theft.
According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations Michalis Nikolaou, a 26-year-old permanent resident of Cyprus complained yesterday Tuesday that two of her compatriots, a man and a woman who had hosted her at her residence, apparently stole her piggy bank containing approximately €1500.
According to the complainant, she met the two persons in Cyprus and they entered into friendly relations.
It is a couple, and, as the complainant reported to the Police, she gave them a room in her residence to stay temporarily until they could find their own residence for their stay. Arrest warrants have been issued against the couple and they are wanted. The police in Paphos are continuing the tests to identify them.

Members of the Limassol Police conducted a search yesterday based on a court warrant at a house in Limassol.
During the search, which took place in the presence of the two occupants of the house, men aged 29 and 24, a shoulder bag was found, inside which were four factory firecrackers, three improvised explosive devices and a plastic bottle containing flammable material.
Also inside the house in a waste bin, a piece of nylon transparent bag was found, which contained a small amount of cannabis.
Both persons were arrested for flagrant offences and detained to facilitate interrogations.
The YKAN (Limassol Unit) and the Polemidia Police Station continue the examinations.

The Larnaca Permanent Assize Court yesterday imposed prison sentences of eight and five years respectively on two men, aged 32, at the time in question (2019) after finding them guilty on charges of possession of child pornographic material.
According to an announcement by the Communication Branch of the Police Headquarters, "the two convicts were arrested by the Police on March 9, 2019, following a relevant information received from Europol."
It is recalled that according to the facts of the case "following information received from Europol that the holder of a specific account possesses or distributes electronic pornographic material, members of the Office for the Fight against Electronic Crime, searched on March 8, 2019, on the basis of a court warrant, the house in ... in which two persons aged 32 years reside".
During the search, four external hard drives, two mobile phones and two laptops were found, owned by the first 32-year-old son.
The 32-year-old allegedly refused to hand over one of the four external hard drives to police and threw it against the wall, causing it to be destroyed, resulting in his arrest for the offenses of destroying evidence and obstructing the execution of a court warrant.
This was followed by a preliminary check by the police on the mobile phone of the second 32-year-old, in which image and video files of child pornographic material were found and he was arrested for illegal possession of child pornographic material.
The case had been investigated by the Cybercrime Bureau.

The Larnaca District Court today imposed prison terms on two men aged 22 and 23, who were found guilty after trial of cases related to offenses committed during the arrival of a number of irregular migrants, on two sea boats, in the Famagusta area, in October 2023. Specifically, the District Court imposed a prison sentence of two and a half years on the above, for the offense of transporting a person by waterway in an unsafe or overloaded vessel. The two cases concerned the arrival by two sea vessels in the area of free Famagusta, on the afternoon of October 28, 2023, of a number of irregular immigrants. In the first boat there were 51 illegal immigrants, among them the 22-year-old, while in the second boat there were 23 illegal immigrants, among them the 23-year-old. According to testimonies obtained afterwards, the 22-year-old and 23-year-old were the navigators of the two marine vessels, separately. They were arrested by members of the Police, pursuant to court warrants.
Both cases were investigated by the TAE of Larnaca.
