As of Thursday, January 4, 2024, the renewal of traffic licenses for the year 2024 will begin, as announced by the Department of Road Transport (TOM) of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works.
The last day of renewal, free of charge, will be Monday 11.3.2024 at 24:00 (midnight), the TFT said in a statement, adding that marketing authorisations can be renewed for a period of three, six, nine and twelve months.
According to the TFT, for renewals made after Monday 11.3.2024, the sum of the amount of 10 euros and an amount equal to ten percent (10%) of the marketing authorization corresponding to the amount due for the year is imposed as a charge.
The Department also states that for the renewal of the marketing authorization there must be a certificate of suitability and safety.
The TFT advises the public to arrange for the renewal of their vehicle registration in a timely manner and, in any case, not to wait for the last few days in order to avoid possible overloading of the system, which may cause inconvenience.
It states that those who had renewed their vehicle registration for the year 2023 but do not intend to renew it for the year 2024 should submit to the TFT a notice to immobilize the vehicle. He adds that immobilization is also taking place online on the TFT website.
Otherwise, according to the TFT, the obligation to pay the amount corresponding to the circulation tax continues to exist.
In addition, the TFT states that vehicles for which the registration certificate for the year 2023 has not been renewed and have not been declared as immobilized will be deleted from the TFT register if the amount due for the year 2023 is not paid and their registration for 2024 is renewed by midnight on Monday 11.3.2024.
It also states that in case of destruction of the vehicle, an application for cancellation of vehicle registration (form TOM 98A) accompanied by the "Certificate of Destruction", issued by licensed vehicle waste treatment facilities, should be submitted to the TFT in order to exempt the owner of the vehicle from the obligation to pay road tax from the date of destruction of the vehicle.
Marketing authorisations can be renewed throughout the year online, at the Citizen Service Centres, at the District Offices of the Department of Postal Services and at the District Offices of the TFT, he adds.
Finally, the TFT states that no notifications will be sent to vehicle owners for the renewal of registration certificates.
