EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF SMART TOURISM - MEETING BETWEEN SEVILLE AND PAPHOS WAS SUCCESSFUL

 


The meeting between Seville and Paphos was successful within the framework of its institution - European Capital of Smart Tourism 2023 The transition of the Paphos delegation to Seville - European Co-Capital of Smart Tourism 2023 The two executives, Nassos Hatzigeorgiou Executive Director of the Tourism Company of Development and Promotion of the Paphos Region and Dr. Zenon Zenonos, Project Manager Smart City of the Municipality of Paphos, they attended and participated in lots of meetings with the Sevilla City Office organization, an organization that promotes smart and sustainable actions development but also with technology companies and academic institutions.

We had the opportunity, emphasizes the announcement, to be informed mainly about something we are lagging behind generally as Cyprus, for data collection and processing mechanisms, mechanisms monitoring sustainability and sustainability indicators, attracting mega events, actions that related to the promotion of gastronomy etc.

At the same time, the various challenges faced by the two destinations were discussed such as for example finding resources, extending/disseminating good practices throughout destination, possible difficulties in accepting innovations from citizens and businesses, etc. Colleagues from Spain expressed their satisfaction and admiration for the actions implemented or underway by Paphos and requested further details and expertise.

Within the framework of the visit, an online meeting was also held with Mr MEP István Ujhelyi, initiator of the Smart Tourism Capital institution where an exchange of views took place. The Paphos delegation had the opportunity to see close up some intervention points and take part in the launch of a specific one cultural route accessible to all.

At the end of the meetings, both sides agreed to find ways continuation of this networking in the coming years with the possibility open together claiming European financial programs, the involvement of universities and bodies from the two regions but also the establishment of an annual meeting with other European Capitals of Smart Tourism.
