Filenews 12 December 2023
The Department of Postal Services has been informed by the Media that the trade union "Equality" has called its Postal Distributors – members to strike action until Friday, December 15, 2023.
In a statement, the Department expresses its apologies to the public for the inconvenience caused by this decision, and especially to his little friends who are waiting for Santa's answers to the letters they have sent him. We will do our utmost not to delay these letters.
Furthermore, they point out the following:
- The decision to take strike action was taken completely unannounced in relation to demands concerning low-paid employees throughout the public sector, an issue on which consultations are ongoing with the Ministry of Finance.
- This decision was not notified to the Department as required by the labour laws. The Department was informed of the strike by the media.
- The total number of Postal Distributors of the Department amounts to 298 and includes 207 colleagues who perform home delivery and another 91 who perform other duties. Out of a total of 298 postal distributors, 90 colleagues are on strike.
- The Department has never refused dialogue and discussion of requests that fall within its competence, but always within the defined institutional frameworks and procedures.
- All possible measures will be taken to reduce the inconvenience caused to the public, especially during this festive season.
