With a fine of €400, the 22-year-old Israelite who was arrested for stealing a mobile phone from the casino-resort in Limassol made him "clean". The 22-year-old believed that he would escape the police and would not be noticed, but he was unlucky, since his movements were recorded by the casino's closed-circuit surveillance.
The 22-year-old, as it became known, was arrested on Wednesday (27/12) at Larnaka airport, shortly before his departure for a foreign country by members of the Police, on suspicion of an investigated theft case. According to "F's" information, yesterday he was brought before the Limassol District Court and after admitting his act, in an express trial the Court imposed a fine of €400 and then he was released to return to his country.
According to the facts of the case, the 22-year-old was arrested shortly after the theft case was reported to the police, while the stolen property was found in his possession. Specifically, shortly before 7.00 pm on Wednesday, a 42-year-old Greek Cypriot man complained to the police that, while at the casino-resort in Limassol, his mobile phone, worth €1,200, had been stolen, which he had left in a gaming machine.
Immediate members of the Episkopi Police Station along with the casino managers checked the CCTV where the theft of the mobile phone was recorded and thus evidence emerged against the 22-year-old. The tests also revealed evidence that he would depart from Cyprus on an evening flight to return to his country. The competent police stations at the two airports, Larnaka and Paphos, were informed accordingly. At around 7.30 pm on Wednesday, members of the Police at Larnaka airport, during passport control, located and checked the 22-year-old suspect. During the check, the suspect confessed to the members of the Police the theft of the mobile phone, which he had in his possession and which he handed over to the Police. The 22-year-old was arrested on a court warrant and taken into custody.

The 21-year-old man who had been detained for eight days in connection with the murder case of a 36-year-old man from Syria is being brought back to the Pafos District Court today.
The arrest of the young man took place on the basis of testimonies obtained by the Police, as well as evidence found at the scene of the incident, while the suspect was detained to facilitate examinations.
The case, which is being investigated by police as attempted murder, took place late on Tuesday, December 19. A 36-year-old Syrian asylum seeker was taken with knife injuries to his left arm and armpit to Paphos Hospital by unknown persons who left the scene in a hurry.
After finding that the injured man had been the victim of a stabbing, doctors underwent surgery and then detained him for hospitalization. His health condition is classified as out of danger.
The officials informed the Police about the incident and members of the Pafos ICF went to the Hospital starting investigations into the events that led to the injury of the 36-year-old. The authorities believed from the first moment that there was a fight in a place where the victim of the attack was located and participants or bystanders in it, transferred him after his injury to the hospital.
Based on the evidence from the investigations, the 21-year-old was arrested and examinations are ongoing.

The Famagusta District Court today imposed a nine-month prison sentence on a 54-year-old hotelier for the maritime accident and serious injury of a 31-year-old British expatriate and her 23-year-old cousin, also of Greek Cypriot origin, in the sea area of Konnos in Protaras, on 13/8/2017.
The senior district judge, Marina Ierokipiotou, imposed prison sentences on the convicted man for a number of offences (she had found him guilty on 15 of the 16 charges he faced), with the highest being the nine months for causing grievous bodily harm to the then 25-year-old R.H., an expatriate from Scotland who had come with her family to our island in the summer of 2017 for holidays.
Ierokipiotou took into account mitigating factors, such as the fact that the convict apologized in writing and compensated the two young women after his conviction on the 12th of this month.
However, the judge, based on the wording of her verdict, did not ignore the indifference and recklessness shown by the 54-year-old and the fact that he did not provide meaningful assistance to the victims after the accident, acting frivolously. He had reported the accident to police, but did not remain at the scene to help the 25-year-old who had lost four liters of blood due to her injury.
The accident had occurred on 13/8/2017 and resulted in the critical injury of the then 25-year-old Anglo-Cypriot, R. H. The young woman at the time of the serious accident was in an inflatable ("sea sofa") which was being towed by a boat of a well-known water sports company. With her on the inflatable boat was her 17-year-old cousin and friend from the Netherlands, also of Cypriot origin.
At some point, the speedboat belonging to the 54-year-old convict and driven by him, was found in the path of the water sports company's boat. The propellers of his speedboat hit the then 25-year-old causing very serious injuries to her lower torso (25cm tear and finger amputation), for which she required long-term hospitalization.
The 31-year-old woman, due to the 25cm tear, had lost four liters of blood in the sea, resulting in immediate danger to her life. She has undergone multiple surgeries, without her health having been restored.
The prosecution in the case was represented by Thanasis Papanikolaou. The latter, after the start of the trial (7/2/2023 the hearing began) had submitted a request for the indictment to be amended in order to include in this offence of causing grievous bodily harm. A request approved by the Famagusta District Court in an interim decision on March 9.
One natural person and one legal person were removed from the original indictment. He is the owner of the water sports company involved in the accident and the business entity. The owner of the company in question turned into a prosecution witness. Besides, he was not responsible for the accident, while he was the person who, as it was recognized through the court decision, provided substantial assistance to the seriously injured woman by taking all appropriate actions.
