Police arrested yesterday morning a 33-year-old man from the Nicosia district, against whom the offences of illegal entry, illegal possession of drugs and burglary tools, stabbing, as well as the commission of traffic offences are being investigated.

Specifically, around 9 am yesterday, information was received about a person who was moving suspiciously in a specific area in the Nicosia district.

Members of the Police rushed to the spot where they spotted a person with this description, driving his vehicle in the area.

As soon as he noticed the members of the police, he tried to flee driving recklessly and dangerously.

The members of the Police followed the driver, who in his attempt to escape violated traffic lights, and then after losing control of his vehicle, it collided with a parked truck and he fled on foot.

In an attempt to stop him, a warning shot was fired by a member of the Police.

This person was located in the area by members of the Police and in a search submitted, a small amount of drugs was found in his possession, while in a subsequent search

 of his vehicle a knife and burglary tools were found.

The 33-year-old was subsequently arrested and detained to facilitate interrogations.

Assistant police director of operations in Paphos, Michalis Nicolaou, reported that from Friday to this morning, the Paphos police issued 230 traffic fines, with the majority related to driving under the influence of alcohol and excessive speeding. Of the 230 citations, 41 were related to driving under the influence of alcohol, two drivers were found to be driving under the influence of drugs, and 42 drivers were caught speeding.

In the last five days, a total of 12 traffic accidents occurred in the Paphos region, with nine involving only material damage.

The Paphos Police arrested a 29-year-old man on Tuesday to facilitate investigations into a case of forgery and impersonation at Paphos airport.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations, Michalis Nikolaou, on 26.12.23 at around 20:00, a young person bound for Italy presented himself at the departures section, presenting a French identity card. From the exams it was found to be a forged document.

When interrogated, he confessed that it does not belong to him and that he is a 29-year-old political asylum seeker.

The 29-year-old was arrested and taken into custody.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.

Police handcuffed a person in the area of Tseri, after a chase from the area of Dali to Tseri, where he was stopped.

Specifically, around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, information was received from the local police station of Pera Chorio – Nisou, that a person is moving suspiciously in the area of Dali, while his description as well as the description of the vehicle with which he was traveling was given.

Members of the Police rushed to the area and after locating the suspicious driver, signalled him to stop. The driver failed to stop and as a result the members of the Police fired warning shots, but again without being able to stop him.

Eventually, the suspect's arrest was achieved in the Tseri area, where the suspect man was arrested by the authorities for flagrant offenses. In particular, a small quantity of drugs and burglary tools were found in his possession.

Plastic containers with stolen oil, drugs and hagiographies were found in the possession of a 37-year-old man from Limassol.

Specifically, according to the Police, around one in the morning information was given that in the area of Kapsalos in Limassol, a suspicious person was seen who was trying to steal oil from a truck that was parked.

Immediately patrols of the Limassol Police went to the area to locate the suspect and then intercepted a pickup truck driven by a 37-year-old man who has engaged the Police in cases of burglary and theft.

A body search conducted on the 37-year-old found him in possession of a transparent bag containing a small quantity of crystal drugs and he was arrested for a flagrant offence of illegal possession of drugs.

A search of his vehicle also found several burglary tools, plastic containers containing oil and five hagiographies for which he did not give adequate explanations.

As a result, he was also arrested for illegal possession of property. He was then taken to the ICF of Limassol where he was detained. The suspect was tested for a narcotest with a positive indication.

The ICF of Limassol in cooperation with the YKAN continue examinations.

Members of the Police (Poaching Prevention Unit of the MMAD), while yesterday afternoon on motorized patrol in an area of the Nicosia district, spotted a suspiciously moving car, which had its headlights switched off.

The car in question was stopped for inspection and it was found to be driven by a 41-year-old man.

In a subsequent search inside the car, a quantity of packaged meat (beef), weighing about 500 kg, was found.

At the same time, a second police patrol located and intercepted in the area another car, which was also driven with lights off, with a 31-year-old man in charge.

In a subsequent search, a large amount of money was found in the possession of the 31-year-old, which he said was intended to buy meat from the 41-year-old.

Court warrants were issued against both persons and they were arrested to facilitate interrogations.
