The arrest of a second suspect, a 42-year-old man, for a case of trafficking in a quantity of cannabis of about two kilos, was carried out last night by the Police and specifically by the Anti-Narcotics Service – YKAN. A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with the same case last Tuesday and is in custody.

The seizure of the quantity of cannabis and the investigation of the new case of drug trafficking led to the collection of evidence and examinations by members of the Anti-Narcotics Service in the district of Pafos.

Specifically, on Tuesday, December 19, at around 4.00 pm, the members of YKAN, spotted on a road in the Pafos district two persons who were riding in a car and motorcycle, engaged in the delivery of a package. As soon as the two noticed the policemen, they left the package on the ground and fled.

The driver of the car developed speed, as a result of which his vehicle collided with a YKAN vehicle and then fled. The driver of the motorcycle, which also collided with a police vehicle, tried to flee on foot, as a result of which he was stopped by the members of the YKAN, who followed him. It was established that he is a 23-year-old man, who was arrested for a flagrant offence. A quantity of cannabis, with a gross weight of 19 grams, was found inside his motorcycle.

The package that the two men tried to exchange was also received from the scene, in which a quantity of cannabis with a gross weight of about two kilograms was found.

A judicial arrest warrant was issued against the 23-year-old under which he was arrested, while on the morning of Wednesday, December 20, he was brought before the Pafos District Court, which issued an eight-day detention order against him.

At the same time, efforts were continuing to locate the second suspect, aged 42, against whom a judicial arrest warrant was also issued, to investigate the drug trafficking case. He was arrested shortly before 7:00 pm on Friday.

Six leisure centers were reported by the Paphos Police in the last two twenty-four hours regarding violations of the relevant laws, according to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations, Michalis Nikolaou.

As Mr. Nikolaou stated to KYPE, in the last two days members of the Paphos Traffic Police carried out coordinated operations with the aim of preventing road traffic collisions. During the operation, he continued, 60 traffic complaints were made, of which 22 related to drink driving.

Mr. Nikolaou said that for several days the Police urges drivers not to consume alcohol beyond the permitted limit, to obey the instructions of the members of the force, and to drive cautiously and defensively, taking into account other drivers.

In addition, he noted that the Police call on citizens to take their own protective measures and not to leave large sums of money and expensive items at home, but also to be sure to secure the doors and windows of their homes, and to turn on the alarm of their premises.

The District Court of Pafos issued three-day detention orders today Sunday against a 33-year-old and an 18-year-old woman to facilitate investigations for investigated cases of forgery and impersonation, as in separate cases, the two people allegedly tried to fly with forged documents.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations, Michalis Nikolaou, yesterday Saturday, at 15:15 in the departures area of ​​Paphos airport, a man presented himself for departure to Rome, presenting a French passport.

It was found to be a fake and when interrogated he confessed that according to his real information, he is 33 years old and had applied for political asylum, which was rejected. He then submitted an appeal to the Administrative Court, but the answer is still awaited. The 33-year-old was subsequently arrested for forgery and impersonation and is under house arrest for three days.

Besides, at 21:00 on Saturday night in the departures section of Paphos airport, a woman with destination Bristol, England was presented.

She presented a French passport which is allegedly fake. When questioned, she stated that she is an 18-year-old applicant for political asylum. He was subsequently arrested and is under house arrest for three days.

The examination for both cases are continuing by the Paphos Police.

The Paphos Police arrested a 45-year-old man in Paphos today, Sunday, in order to facilitate investigations regarding an investigated case of written death threats, sending abusive and threatening messages and causing actual bodily harm.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations Michalis Nikolaou on 23.12.23 she was reported by a permanent resident of Cyprus that she maintains a casual relationship with a 45-year-old with whom she is facing various problems and wishes to move away from him.

As reported by the complainant from time to time in the last months, the 45-year-old allegedly attacked her and caused her real physical harm in some cases and further systematically harassed her with phone calls and messages.

In some cases the messages were threatening to the point that he wished to bring them to death.  The 45 year old was arrested this Sunday and is being interrogated.

The Paphos Police continue to investigate the case.

Property of value was allegedly stolen by unknown burglars from two houses in Limassol. On the occasion of the burglaries and the upcoming Christmas holidays, the police urge the public to be particularly careful and take measures to protect their property.

According to the police, the two burglaries occurred in the area of Agios Tychonas. The perpetrators, who may be the same, entered the houses after breaching the entrances. In one house, the perpetrators managed to breach the safe, which was empty while the owner was absent. The burglars allegedly stole items of as yet unknown value. In the second house, the perpetrators again managed to break into small safes from which they stole a sum of money. Electronic devices and other items of unknown value were also stolen.

Police officers who rushed to the scene are investigating the two cases in an attempt to identify the perpetrators. Due to the three-day Christmas holiday, the police are appealing to citizens to take the necessary measures to protect their property.
