Filenews 18 December

The Limassol Permanent Assize Court imposed today an immediate 7-year prison sentence on the 31-year-old defendant who robbed and punched a 54-year-old woman on Easter Day in Limassol.

The 31-year-old defendant, as "F" wrote in a previous report, had been released on parole for a period of 9 days before the robbery, as he served a five-year prison sentence following his conviction in a drug case.

In today's ruling, the Assize Court sentenced the 31-year-old to 7 years in prison after he was found guilty by his own admission to the two most serious charges, robbery and act with intent to grievous bodily harm. The accused was also given lower sentences for various other offences.

According to the facts of the case, the robbery was committed on the evening of Easter Sunday (16/4/2023) in the area of Germasogeia when the 54-year-old from Ukraine noticed inside her residence an unknown man who had his face covered with a hood. The 31-year-old defendant attacked the 54-year-old by punching her in the face and shouting "money, money" at her in English. The 54-year-old began shouting and the 31-year-old fled. After the incident, a neighbour bumped the defendant into the yard of their house who was half-naked and the neighbours managed to restrain him and call the police. The 31-year-old appears to have used drugs before the offences were committed.

During his arrest by the members of the Force, in his possession was found, in a waist bag, the amount of €2,960, a folding knife type knife, five and a half centimeters long, a screwdriver and three keys. They also found 12 crackers and a quantity of green dry cannabis plant matter, with a gross weight of five and a half grams. It should be noted that blood stains were also found on the defendant's clothes, as well as a hood, which was found on the route between the 54-year-old's home and the point where it was stopped by neighbours.

The 31-year-old defendant appears to have used drugs before committing the offences.
