A strange case is before the District Court of Famagusta, according to which a breeder will be in the defendant's dock for a... donkey.

As stated in a publication of the "Haravgi" newspaper, the 61-year-old livestock farmer is referred to the Justice because his donkey got away from him, which then hit its head on an EAC stake, causing a fire to break out, which caused material damage to two others breeders who maintain units in the area.

According to the publication, the events occurred on June 13, 2023 in Deryneia. The rancher failed to take precautions against potential danger from his animal by failing to confine it within the premises.

As a result of the fire, two livestock farmers suffered damages of nine thousand euros, as the bales of hay they had were burned.

The defendant faces charges of reckless and negligent acts. Also, it is being investigated whether on the same day and time he tolerated the animal as being a stray, a charge which derives from the Law on Municipalities.  The third charge is that he failed to register the donkey with the Veterinary Services, as he was obliged by the relevant Regulation of the European Communities.
