CRIME ROUND UP

 Pafos Press 12 December 2023

The Paphos District Court ordered a 29-year-old Paphos resident to be detained for four days to facilitate investigations into three cases of theft from a depository and money laundering, according to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations, Michalis Nikolaou.

Against the 29-year-old, the Police received three different complaints from citizens, who allegedly gave money to the suspect, in order to buy a car, but he did not deliver the vehicle they agreed upon. The three cases were reported to the Police on October 28, 2023.

According to the history of the case, a 33-year-old resident of Paphos reported to the Police that in May 2023, he contacted the 29-year-old, who runs a vehicle sales shop, with the aim of mediating the sale of his vehicle and bringing him a specific vehicle from abroad. For this purpose, in June 2023, the side of the complainant sent the 29-year-old, through a transfer, an amount of money in excess of €13,000. Additionally, the complainant reported that in July 2023, the 29-year-old told him that he had sold his vehicle for €25,000.

However, according to the complaint, the suspect never delivered the vehicle they agreed upon or any amount of money to the complainant.

The second complaint was made by a 35-year-old resident of Pafos. According to the complaint, the complainant reached an agreement with the 29-year-old to buy a car, which the suspect would bring from abroad. For this purpose, last July, on two occasions, the 35-year-old gave the 29-year-old a sum of money, totalling €17,000, as part of the value of the vehicle, which he would buy. However, since then the 29-year-old has not delivered the agreed vehicle to the complainant, nor returned the money.

The third complaint was made by a 61-year-old resident of Paphos, according to whom, in July 2023, he sent the sum of €23,000 to the 29-year-old, in order to purchase a vehicle, which the suspect would bring to him from abroad. However, according to the complaint, the vehicle was never delivered to the complainant, nor was the money refunded.

A judicial arrest warrant was issued against the 29 year old, which was executed yesterday, at Paphos airport, upon his return to Cyprus from a foreign country.

The TAE of Paphos continues the exams.
