Police arrested two women, aged 42 and 27, yesterday to facilitate investigations into ongoing cases of residential theft. At least two cases of theft from elderly people's homes are being investigated against the two arrested.
The two cases were reported to the Police, by an 80-year-old and an 86-year-old resident of Limassol. According to what they said, on the morning of December 8, 2023, they were visited at their homes, by two unknown women, who under various pretexts managed to trick them and steal money.
Specifically, around 10am on December 8, two unknown women visited the 80-year-old's home in Limassol and asked her if they could cut oranges from the orange tree in her yard. The complainant gave them permission and went out into her yard to help them. One of the women, pretending that she would use the latrine of the house, managed to enter the house alone.
Shortly afterwards, when the two women left the 80-year-old's home, the complainant became aware that her wallet, which contained the sum of €70, credit cards and personal documents, had been stolen.
The second case took place on the same day, in the same area of Limassol. According to an 86-year-old woman, at around 12.30pm, while she was in the living room of her house, two unknown women entered her home. After chatting for a while, the complainant went to the kitchen of the house to make them coffee. Shortly afterwards, after the two women left the 86-year-old's home, the complainant found that her purse had been stolen from the living room of the house. Inside the wallet was the sum of €50 and her personal documents.
Police examinations secured testimony against the 42-year-old and 27-year-old, on the basis of which judicial arrest warrants were issued against them. The two women were located yesterday afternoon in Limassol, arrested and detained to facilitate interrogations.
The ICF Limassol continues the examinations.

The Limassol Permanent Assize Court today imposed a 3.5-year prison sentence on the 40-year-old defendant, who was found guilty after a hearing on the two serious charges he faces and relate to the offence of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and malicious damage. This is the attack committed in the early morning of November 6, 2021 at a taxi office on Makarios Avenue.
The Assize Court's decision is unanimous and sentenced the 40-year-old to 3.5 years in prison for the offence of causing grievous bodily harm and 9 months for the charge of malicious damage. The penalties will be met.
According to the court's decision, the defendant's action was punishable, as he injured the 47-year-old complainant with his private vehicle. He also noted that no evidence of motive has been demonstrated, but his behaviour and action were unexpected and overt. Also, his act was deliberate and according to the findings of the Court, it appears that he was fully aware and aware of his actions.
Mitigating circumstances were taken into account that he is a person with no criminal record, as well as his family and personal circumstances. It was also taken into account that he compensated the owner of the taxi office "Faros".
As "F" wrote in a previous report, the defendant had been called for an apology last September and exercised the right to testify under oath claiming that he was in a state of complete confusion due to a diabetic episode. What he said before the Assize Court was found to be untrue.
It should be noted that the ICF of Limassol was investigating the offence of attempted murder during the initial stages of the case, however the case was registered at the Assize Court for the offence of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm. This occurred at dawn on 6/11/21 when the 40-year-old defendant while in his vehicle, developed speed and hit the 47-year-old who was standing at the entrance of the taxi office. The 40-year-old then entered the premises with the vehicle, causing material damage and then fled the scene.
The 47-year-old had suffered serious leg injuries and underwent surgeries. He has also placed osteosynthesis material on his leg.
