At the lowest point since 2005, when data are available, 2022 closed for the postal services of Cyprus, according to the annual questionnaire sent to companies by the Office of the Commissioner of Electronic Communications and Courier Regulation (OCECPR).
Specifically, the turnover of the universal postal service in Cyprus decreased in 2022 to €18,845,820, compared to €19,493,571 in 2021 and €19,385,052 in 2020. In fact, for the third consecutive year turnover fell to below €20 million, after the previous years it was over €20 million, with the best year recorded in 2007, when turnover had reached €30.81 million.
Market shares for outbound
Data on the market shares of the international courier service are also interesting. Compared to outbounds, there is a decline for DHL Cyprus Ltd, which, however, continues to be in first place with a safety difference.

It is worth noting that, in June 2018, Airtrans Express Services Ltd stopped representing UPS in Cyprus, in July 2018 GAP Vassilopoulos started representing UPS in Cyprus, and also in July 2018 FedEx purchased TNT Express (Cyprus) and renamed TNT Express FedEx (Cyprus).

In relation to market shares for incoming, the situation was as follows:

Historical record in incoming items
In relation to the number of items, according to the data communicated by providers in the context of annual questionnaires sent by OCECPR to inboxes, 2022 recorded a historical record since 2005, when data are available, with 2,436,365 items, while outbound items recorded a decrease compared to 2021, falling from 746,264 items to 667,396 items.
Regarding the number of items per capita, it reached the highest point in the last 18 years for inbound items with 2.69 (same performance in 2021) and outbound fell to 0.74 items per capita as it was 0.83 items in 2021.
Market shares by number of items
In terms of market shares based on the number of items, ACS climbed to first place with 42%, leaving GAP Akis Express Ltd in second place with 41.6% and much lower in third place Travel & Express with 6.7%.
Market shares based on total turnover
Regarding market shares, based on the total turnover of all providers for 2022, Cyprus Post was in first place with a share of 30%, followed by DHL Cyprus Ltd with 14%, ACS and GAP Akis Express both with 13% and GAP Vassilopoulos (UPS) with 10%.
The most frequent complaints
Finally, in relation to the rates of complaints expressed for the service of providers, there are differences in 2022 compared to 2021.
The most common complaints concern:
-Complaints in relation to pricing 32%
-Complaints about delivery time 31%
– Complaints about broken/damaged postal item 9%
– Complaints for non-detection of the postal item 6%
– Complaints about delivery other than the instructions given or e.g. delivery to a neighbour without being asked 4%
