Large excavations, cutting of pine trees, opening of a public road with damage to foreign plots in order to install a mobile phone antenna in Pedoulas, are reported by affected citizens, residents and businesses in the area.
According to an announcement by the Green Movement – Citizens' Cooperation, the application for planning permission was secured but the complainants complain that the data of the area was withheld in order to obtain permission. "The affected parties, while succeeding such as the Town Planning Authority in requesting a suspension of works and revocation of the permit on August 30, 2023, complain that work resumed two weeks ago."
The Green Movement – Citizens' Cooperation stands by the affected and residents of Pedoulas and immediately calls on all involved departments to ensure that the works are terminated. "In order to obtain the revocation of a permit, it appears that the complaints to the Town Planning Authority are valid, which makes the installation illegal in an area of forest which is adjacent to residences and a hotel."
In addition, they demand an immediate assessment of the environmental damage suffered by the forest in the area where the trees were cut down and excavated, as well as a full restoration of the damage.
