THE 'MOON' IN ZUHURI SQUARE, LARNACA - 13-19 November

Filenews 3 November 2023 - by Natasha Christoforou

Those visiting Larnaca from 13 to 19 November will have the chance to experience a unique event, since the organizers of the Larnaka Biennale will... lower the moon in Zhuhuri Square.

After strenuous efforts it was possible to bring to Cyprus the Museum of the Moon, a great work of art by British artist Luke Jerram, which tours all over the world.

The work is an accurate depiction of the moon, has a diameter of seven meters and consists of high-resolution images (120dpi) from NASA's Science Center. At a scale of about 1:500,000, each centimetre of the illuminated spherical facility represents 5 kilometers of the moon's surface. The impressive work of art has already arrived in our country and in the coming days it will begin its installation in Zhuhuri Square at a height of three meters.

It is a work of art that has been exhibited in reference points around the world, receiving rave reviews, since the floating sphere is an exact replica of the moon. Many events are planned in the area of the Zuhuri complex on the occasion of the arrival of the Museum of the Moon, accompanied by soundtrack music by BAFTA award-winning composer Dan Jones. Luke Jerram lives in the UK but has been working internationally since 1997.

His outstanding creations include sculptures, installations and live works of art and he is particularly known worldwide for his large-scale public works. The Museum of the Moon is part of the parallel events of the Larnaka Biennale and is organized by the creative platform Once In a Blue Moon and the company Wonderdots. It arrived in Cyprus thanks to sponsorships from AsusPlus Auditors and Tax Consultants, Edge Development Group and Scaffolding Solutions. Supporters of the event are the Municipality of Larnaka and the Larnaca Act.
