ENI DRILLING RIG HEADS TO SATURN-2 TARGET

 Filenews 2 November 2023

The drillship Transocean Barrents has set sail from Limassol towards the Kronos field, where drilling will be carried out on behalf of Italy's ENI at the Saturn-2 target in block 6 of Cyprus' EEZ, approximately 160 km southwest of Cyprus.

According to informed sources, drilling is expected to last until the end of the year or early 2024.

The drillship had completed drilling for TotalEnergies in Lebanon's EEZ at the end of October.

It is recalled that in August 2022, Italy's ENI had announced the discovery of an estimated amount of 2.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas at the Saturn-1 target, noting that there is potential for additional quantities to be explored with additional exploratory drilling in the area.

Drilling at the Saturn-2 target will be the company's third in block six, following drilling at the Saturn-1 target and drilling at the Calypso field in 2018.

ENI is the operator of the block with a 50% stake, with TotalEnergies holding a corresponding stake.
