The Cypriots are not "played" and prove to be very ingenious in fooling the system or going through holes left through announcements or legislation.
The above reference is related to the fact that instead of withdrawing the vehicles they had in order to receive the state grant of €10,000-€12,000 for the purchase of an electric vehicle, they bought dirt cheap cars of €500-€600 which were then declared for withdrawal as provided by the relevant government program, while keeping the one they previously owned and which is probably more polluting than the one they bought to withdraw it.
The issue was brought to light by Green MP Stavros Papadouris, making a reference to it during the budget debate of the Ministry of Transport.
We contacted Mr. Papadouris, who when asked about this by "F", said that only four citizens contacted him who asked him to inform them about the sponsorships and in the discussion above, they also told him their plan for the withdrawal.
Papadouris questioned whether a limit should be placed on the time a vehicle is owned before someone denotes it for scrapping purposes.
It is noted that with the government's programs, in the period 2020-2023 (until September) 1912 electric vehicles were purchased. Private vehicles are only 714 while the rest include from commercial vehicles to mopeds.
