Nor today were the defendants ready to respond to the charges they face in connection with the incidents that took place on the evening of September 1, during a protest against immigration in the area of Embankment. The proceedings before the Limassol Permanent Assize Court were postponed and set for 7 December.

During today's proceedings, the Assize Court approved the request of the 7 defendants who applied for representation with free legal aid. Initially, 9 defendants had filed a request, but today, two of them withdrew. Reading the reports prepared by the Welfare Office, it appears that all 7 defendants are persons who have no financial resources. In fact, one is a person serving his military service while another is a recipient of a Guaranteed Minimum Income.

The defendants' lawyers have asked for time for their clients to respond, while the examination of a request sent to the Attorney General concerning one of the defendants is pending. As for the defendant who was a convict, since when he was arrested he was serving his sentence under electronic surveillance, he was released a few days ago and today restrictive conditions were imposed by the Court to ensure his presence at the trial.

Before the end of the proceedings, one of the lawyers reported the presence of citizens of left-wing organizations present outside the court, holding banners bearing the slogan "They are not innocent. Fascists in prison." He noted that the Police and the Registry are aware of the issue, stressing that there is no reaction from the competent bodies. He argued that the presumption of innocence was violated.

The Court stated that the statement had been noted, but explained that it did not have the power to do so.

As the defendants left the Limassol District Court building, dozens of condoms were thrown at the protesters.

The 13 face charges relating to the offences of participating in a riot, causing damage to buildings by riots, arson, assaulting a law enforcement officer, common assault, public incitement to violence or hatred, malicious damage to property and stabbing.

A 34-year-old man accused of attempting to murder a 31-year-old individual in Psathi, Paphos province, will remain in custody until January 25 of the new year

The Criminal Court granted the prosecution’s request today, deeming the accused a flight risk and a potential repeat offender of similar criminal acts.

The accused, as stated in the previous hearing, denies the charge of attempted murder in the case of the shootings against the 31-year-old in Psathi in the early hours of September 24.

He pleaded not guilty before the Paphos Criminal Court on November 16, and the case has been scheduled for trial on January 25 of the new year.

Until then, the prosecution sought the detention of the 34-year-old, a position contested by the defendant’s legal defense.

The Criminal Court reserved its decision on this matter until today when it announced the detention order pending the trial.

The attempted murder took place at 5 a.m. on Sunday, September 24, when the accused fired two shots with his hunting rifle at the 31-year-old as the latter arrived outside his residence and parked his vehicle.

The 34-year-old had parked within the victim’s property, waiting for him, according to authorities.

The victim’s family members immediately heard the gunshots, rushed to the yard, and found the 31-year-old injured.

They transported him by car to Paphos General Hospital, from where he was later transferred to Nicosia General Hospital.

The perpetrator of the shootings was immobilized at the scene by the victim’s relatives and subsequently handed over to the police, along with the firearm used during the incident.

The victim of the attack has since recovered and has been discharged from the hospital.
