A 44-year-old mother of three, who ended up in prison last May following a decision by the Larnaca District Court in a fatal traffic accident case, is released within the day.

According to a philenews source, the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, decided to pardon her. A procedure was launched later in the day, with the Legal Service sending a letter to the Presidency. In other words, the formal procedures remain and it is estimated that within the next few hours the matter will be settled by sending the necessary documents from the Presidential Office to the Department of Prisons.

The case was highlighted by "Phileleftheros" on July 26. The news had caused a sensation, as the written request of the 44-year-old through the law firm "Pelekanos & Pelekanos LLC" was supported by the relatives of the person who lost his life in the car accident.

The tragedy has to do with the loss of the captain of the National Guard, Christos Christodoulou. On 31/12/2020, New Year's Eve, the thread of his life was to be cut. While moving on Makarios Avenue in Aradippou with his large displacement motorcycle, a collision occurred with a vehicle in front, resulting in his fatal injury. The driver of the car was the then 42-year-old, mother of three.

About two and a half years later, the 44-year-old immediately admitted to the offence of causing death by reckless or dangerous act, despite the particular circumstances of the crash, showing in practice her willingness to take her own responsibility. The Larnaca District Court imposed an immediate prison sentence of 16 months, resulting in the 44-year-old being incarcerated in the Central Prison as of 16/5/2023.

The letter from the 44-year-old, requesting her release, was sent last May. It was accompanied by a note from the relatives of the deceased. In it, they stated, inter alia, that regardless of the legal measures they have taken (civil action at the Larnaca District Court) and their outcome, they have no objection to being pardoned by the President of the Republic. They add that serving this sentence by the 44-year-old will not help in any way the deceased or themselves, but on the contrary is exhausting for the convict and her family.

The letter also recorded the 44-year-old's particular family and personal circumstances.
