CRIME ROUND UP

Filenews 14 November 2023

The 37-year-old from Palestine, who was arrested yesterday on suspicion of the arson of the Limassol District Court, committed on July 21, 2021, was placed in three-day detention.

The 37-year-old was brought before the Limassol Court this morning without being represented by a lawyer and the investigators of the ICF Limassol requested his detention for a period of 3 days. The Court granted the request and the proceedings were concluded without the facts being read.

According to philenews, testimony had been secured against the 37-year-old that he was the person who climbed the staircase they had placed with another 39-year-old outside the Court building. The suspect is believed to be the person who entered the room and then set it on fire after stealing and destroying important evidence. He even received instructions from the Central Prison, via video call from the mastermind of the case.

The 37-year-old, according to the same information, after the arson, fled to Turkey and recently returned to Larnaca. Yesterday he seems to have gone to the Police in Larnaca to get a specific certificate and then it was found that he was wanted. He was then handcuffed and handed over to the investigators of the ICF of Limassol.

Another 39-year-old person is wanted for the case, while the tsiliadoros and the mastermind of the case, who gave instructions via video call from his cell in the Central Prison, were sentenced to 7 years in prison. The 30-year-old mastermind, after being convicted, was deported and recently returned to Cyprus where he was arrested for violating the terms of his deportation.
