A BBC report says a Greek warship has reportedly been deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean and is likely to be stationed on the Israeli-Lebanese border.
On the other hand, Germany said that two of its armed Heron combat drones are used by Israeli forces. The moves came after NATO defense ministers were briefed by Yoav Galad.
What Jens Stolenberg said
NATO allies condemned Hamas' "unjustifiable terrorist acts" – but also urged Israel to respond with "proportionality".
"As the conflict unfolds, the protection of civilians is essential," NATO Secretary-General Jens Stolterk said. "There are rules of war."
Above all, what Israel seeks to get is diplomatic support for its operation in Gaza. And apparently, from the announcement, he managed to get it.
In the Eastern Mediterranean, the frigate Psara
The Hellenic National Defence General Staff announced on Thursday (12/10) the integration of a Hellenic Navy frigate into NATO's permanent naval force in the Eastern Mediterranean. According to the HNDGS briefing, "as of Tuesday, October 10 and for an initial period of approximately 30 days, the Hellenic Navy's frigate PSARA joined the Standing NATO Maritime Group Two-SNMG 2, according to the existing schedule."
In addition, SNMG-2 is scheduled to participate in exercises in the wider region of the Eastern Mediterranean. The Hellenic National Defence General Staff denies that there is a request to escort the US aircraft carrier to the Eastern Mediterranean.
Finally, the HNDGS underlined that so far no request has been made for the escort of the USS GERALD R. FORD by SNMG-2.
