The central public transport station of Pafos, which has been operating since September 25 in the brand new facilities that have been erected in the traditional area of "Karavella", has already contributed to the improvement of the services provided and the daily life of the traveling public.
This is pointed out by representatives of the local authority of Pafos, as well as the public transport organization of the district, pointing out that 12,000 passengers per day are now served in the appropriate way for local and intercity routes.
Following the completion of the new premises in "Karavella", as well as the two new transfer stations in the tourist areas of the Tombs of the Kings and a small port, the competent authorities of the province turn their attention to the many other projects that need to be carried out in order to be able to say that Pafos has acquired modern public transport infrastructure. Such problems, they stress, concern the service of passengers from Pafos Airport to the district of Polis Chrysochous, the need to adjust and densify the routes to serve a large number of scheduled flights from Pafos International Airport and the better service of passengers in the countryside.
Local authorities and stakeholders also talk about the need to strengthen the routes from Coral Bay to the centre of Paphos and vice versa, as well as from Geroskipou to the centre of Paphos, without the need for passengers to change buses and buy two tickets, one to Kato Paphos and another from there to the centre.
Bodies directly related to tourism, such as the Pafos Tourism Board, believe that bus stops and shelters need further improvements, since both inside and outside urban areas the situation is characterized as unacceptable. In many cases, he points out, there are not even shelters and if there are, they are dissimilar and diverse both in design, construction and materials, while they do not include any trace of technology.
The Mayor of Pafos, Phedon Phedonos, said that the Municipality is preparing documents for new tenders in relation to the creation of 196 smart bus stops in Paphos and Geroskipou, as well as the construction of 30 modern public hygiene areas in these areas.
Both the Mayor of Pafos and the Director of the Pafos Synkinonia Organisation, Constantinos Ioannides, stated that the operation of the brand new Paphos central public transport station has already stimulated economic activity and greatly improved the connectivity of the tourist areas in Paphos, Geroskipou and Peyia.
